How to use archetypal branding with astrology to attract your perfect clients

What is Archetypal Branding?

You may have completed quizzes over the last few years to find your branding archetype (or some variation on that theme). I love these quizzes and they are super helpful for entrepreneurs, and brand designers, to get clear on your brand essence.

Spoiler alert - when I do these quizzes I always come out as the Explorer which is not surprising as the explorer maps clearly to the zodiac sign of Sagittarius which is my sun sign.

But what are archetypes and how did they come to be used in branding?

Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. He used the concept of archetypes in his theory of the human psyche.

Archetypes are deep enduring patterns of thought and behavior laid down in the human psyche that remain powerful over long periods of time and transcend cultures.

Archetypes form the basis for all unlearned, instinctive patterns of behavior that humankind–regardless of culture–shares in common. They are universal, mythic characters.

Archetypes are found in dreams, literature, art, and myth and communicate to us through many symbols.

In recent years the brand archetypes have been applied to branding and brand designers have used them to identify the archetype of the brand and then to align the branding with this.

For personal branding, this has been really helpful for entrepreneurs to get clearer on what their brand identity really is!

In 2012 the book Archetypes in Branding was published by Margaret Hartwell and Joshua Chen describing how the different archetypes can be expressed through branding. The authors came up with an additional 4 sub-archetypes for each of the core archetypes to drill down even further.

For example, for the Caregiver archetype we then have the Angel, the Samaritan, the Healer and the Guardian.

The Zodiac as Archetypes

The zodiac is one of the oldest forms of Archetypes in the world and they influenced Carl Jung’s work even if he was skeptical of the true application of Astrology.

Carl Jung knew and used astrology with his own clients, and his theory of typology was linked to astrological symbolism however, he did not suggest in his work a clear definitive correlation of each core archetype to a zodiac sign.

Therefore, it’s not surprising that Jung identified 12 main archetypes that can be matched to the Zodiac signs.

Some of the Archetypes are clear matches for a zodiac archetype and others are harder to precisely map but I have intuited my choice of mapping in my AstroBrand Archetype Map Method (™) as there is no definitive approach.

So how do you use Archetypal Branding with Astrology?

Hopefully, by now you can see why archetypes in branding are so powerful, but how do we combine it with Astrology to determine your Soul Aligned brand?

One of the simplest ways to use archetypal branding and astrology is to start with your sun sign and to incorporate the colours, brand voice, and brand vibe related to this zodiac sign in your branding.

You can download my free guide here for an introduction to the Brand Archetype of your sun sign.

In my Soul-Aligned AstroBranding™ Method I consider at a minimum 4 core elements of your Astrology chart including:

» Your Core Essence

» Your Allure

» Your Connection

» Your Soul Clients

In my free guide, I share with you the first element - your Core Essence - which is indicated by your Sun Sign.

Your Sun sign can provide a significant indication for how you are meant to show up in the world - in other words, your core brand archetype, your brand vibe, and the brand voice you should communicate with to truly shine.
